Historic bridge to be replaced at Spout Creek
A BRIDGE built more than 70 years ago on the Great Ocean Road will be replaced to improve safety for all road users.
The Department of Transport and Planning and contractors Fulton Hogan will begin replacing the Spout Creek bridge on Monday, August 5.
The Spout Creek bridge on the Great Ocean Road at Eastern View, between Moggs Creek and Lorne was originally built in 1954 and widened in 1973.
Since then, the bridge has aged and has required constant essential maintenance.
The installation of a new bridge will improve connectivity on the Great Ocean Road and boost the capacity for heavy vehicles.
The project will also include new bridge railings and road pavement at bridge approaches.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane from August 5, with a reduced speed limit of 40km.
Traffic management will be on site during working hours, with temporary traffic lights in place thereafter.
All existing driveways will remain open during project works.
The car park on the eastern side of Spout Creek bridge will be closed for the duration of the works.
The bridge works are expected to be completed in early 2025.
