Peter and Kerri Scott and the Hotondo Homes giving tree which is open for donations.

HOTONDO Homes have set up a giving tree in their Baines Crescent showroom and joined the incredible list of community groups behind the One Big Table lunch celebration on Christmas Day.

People can place gifts underneath the tree which organisers will give to children and teenagers attending the lunch, that aims to connect the community after a challenging year.

Hotondo Homes Torquay directors Kerri and Peter Scott said setting up a giving tree was something they had always wanted to do, and marketing coordinator Megan Discher said donations had already begun rolling in.

“Kerri and Pete have donated these presents. Every year they have given donations to a Christmas tree charity, and this year they decided to just set one up themselves, by partnering with One Big Table,” she said.

“There are a lot of community groups getting involved which is so good.

“People can come and donate their presents here and they will be donated to kids and teens at the event on Christmas Day.”

While most presents are accepted besides anything “alive or perishable”, people making donations can help to make sure the present finds the best possible candidate before they drop it off.

“We are asking people to wrap the presents and on the outside place a removable tag saying clearly what the present is,” Ms Discher said.

“We are asking for vouchers for teens, there is an ultimate teen gift card that you can get from places – just because teens are a little harder to buy for.

“The more presents the better. We’re hoping for a great turnout.”

People wishing to make donations can head to Hotondo Homes at 1D Baines Crescent between 8.30am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday to leave gifts. Alternatively, Megan Discher can be contacted on 0455 451 604 and [email protected].
