Hook in to Hockey at Torquay

February 20, 2019 BY

Is your child Australia’s next Kookaburra or Hockeyroo? Try Torquay Hockey Club’s Hookin2Hockey program for free on February 27 for kids 10 and under.

THE Torquay Hockey Club (THC) is running its 2019 Hookin2Hockey (H2H) program, an introductory program into hockey for juniors aged 10 and under.

Torquay Hockey Club President Andrew Crowley said they’re currently visiting local schools promoting H2H, which focuses on fun and the development of new skills.

“The THC has been running for 10 years and for seven of those we’ve run the H2H program. On a good year, up to 80 per cent of the participants end up going on to join one of our junior teams,” Mr Crowley said.

“The kids are learning skills from scratch at the same time and at the same pace.

It’s a non-threatening environment for kids to learn hockey.”

The program costs $85, including hockey equipment: stick, shin guards and ball, insurance and coaches.

“We’re running a free session on February 27.

The kids can come along and try it and if they like it they can register for the program which runs every Wednesday from 6 7pm until April 17,” Mr Crowley said.

“We are a family club that caters for the competitive and the casual player and teams that support one another. Come and try the free session at Bob Petit Reserve, Sunset Strip, Jan Juc.”
