Shire decides against extra rezoning in central Torquay

THE Surf Coast Shire will not look to create any extra office space in Bristol Road and Pearl Street outside of the existing plans for the Torquay Town Centre. The council adopted the Torquay Town Centre Urban Design Framework (UDF) in December 2017, subject to an investigation to the option to further rezone land in those two areas. However, according to a report presented to councillors at their February meeting, Michael Connell and Associates conclude that “given the combination of supply and demand factors, there is not a strong demand for office use in the proposed Bristol Road and Pearl Street sites and therefore no need for a rezoning to support this”.
