Inclusion Round to shine bright
LEISURE Networks and AFL Barwon are teaming up to celebrate inclusion in sport by hosting a first-of-its-kind Inclusion Round.
This weekend, players from Geelong West Giants and St Joseph’s will wear yellow socks and ribbons to symbolise energy, warmth and positivity around inclusion.
The sea of yellow will carry through senior grade football and netball, and all four all-abilities matches.
Leisure Networks chief executive officer David Meade said he could not wait to highlight the importance of supporting individuals to feel connected and valued.
“Inclusion should be at the heart of every sports organisation, as they bring people together and break down barriers,” he said.
“By creating a safe and inclusive environment for all we foster a sense of belonging and respect for all individuals, regardless of their background or identity.”
AFL Barwon regional manager Edward Wilson said the organisation was proud to emphasise the importance of inclusive environments. “We’re extremely grateful to everyone who contributes to inclusive environments, no matter how defined the impact is,” he said.
