JAN JUC surfer India Robinson claimed her maiden WSL Qualifying Series win at the Phillip Island Pro on Sunday, beating Sophia Fulton in perfect surf at the Penguin Parade.

Robinson was in fine form throughout the event, consistently scoring in the excellent range on the speedy right hand waves on offer.

“I’m so excited and overwhelmed,” she said.

“I had an absolute dream heat finding the best waves and my boards felt great.”

After a strong start to the year with a quarter final finish at the highly rated Florida Pro, Robinson set her sights for an event win and was able to do it in her home state in front of family and friends.

“It’s incredible to win so close to home and be staying with close friends on Phillip Island. The support I got was amazing.

“I’m looking forward to competing at Port Stephens next week and have a lot more confidence after this heat win.”

Robinson amassed a heat total of 18.05 (out of a possible 20) in the opening half of the heat, making Fulton’s task of winning insurmountable. Fulton finished the final on a heat total of 11.20 points.

Robinson will now move up two spots on the World Surf League QS rankings to 24 going into the final event of the season at Port Stephens.

The Men’s quarter finals were also completed with Jordan Lawler (Narrabeen), Morgan Cibilic (Newcastle), Kehu Butler (New Zealand) and Sandon Whittaker all claiming spots in the Semi Finals.

The Junior Challenge finals wrapped up in the morning with the top Victorian Juniors battling it out for $500 in cash prizes.

Former U18 State Champion Taj Sleeman (Wonthaggi) claimed top honours in the boys division over Indi White (Jan Juc). Chad Garret (Phillip Island) placed in third with Bohdie Williams (Ocean Grove) in fourth.

Ellie Harrison (Barwon Heads) took the win in the Girls division in front of Bella Wilson (Jan Juc) who finished in second. Lannia Fostin (Phillip Island) placed in third with Lucy Nayor (Point Lonsdale) in fourth.
