VICTORIA’S finest lifesavers braved cold conditions in Lorne on the weekend to show off their surf rescue skills at the IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat) Championships.

The two-day carnival saw lifesavers compete in a series of team events with the aim of demonstrating their ability to complete a successful IRB rescue.

Barwon Heads 13th Beach Surf Life Saving Club took the top spot on the final day of competition (Sunday June 2), scoring 107 points. Fairhaven SLSC placed sixth on 16 points, while Ocean Grove SLSC placed seventh on nine points. Frankston LSC came in last on four points.

Men’s and women’s events included tube, mass, teams, rescue and an all-inclusive relay.
