JUNIOR sailors from around the state competed in the 2019 Victorian O’pen Bic Championship (also known as the Vic Open Cup) on the weekend before last, racing through hot conditions, tricky breezes and no swell to deliver terrific results.

Hosted by the Torquay Sailing Club, the sailing regatta took place on March 2-3 and welcomed keen local and interstate sailors to participate in the fast-paced event.

Torquay Sailing Club’s Chris Hordern said the club took on O’pen Bic dinghies in 2014 and since then it had been a great success.

The fleet included current U/13 world champion Breanne Wadley (QLD), who won both the U/13 event and the title.

Sailors from Torquay performed very well in a challenging climate, with Conall Green placing second overall and first Victorian, Oliver Hordern claiming third overall and Billy Hordern taking the runner-up title in the U/13 event and first
Victorian.

Flynn LaPorte took the top spot in the silver fleet, while Quinn Buggy placed third and Sweeny Smiths placed fifth.
