LIVE music, a jumping castle, food, drinks, a helicopter dropping golf balls and a chance to win $15,000 – the Tiger Drop is back and with plenty to offer later this month.

Tiger Drop is the major annual fundraiser for Torquay’s football, netball and cricket clubs.

Entry is free for the family-friendly event that takes place before the golf ball drop. There will be plenty of fun for children, including face painting, Farm 2 U petting zoo, WildlifeXposure, three bouncing castles, and a bungee run.

Torquay Football Netball Club president Jenny Wood said the annual event reflected how many people were involved in the clubs.

“Because the three clubs all put in and bring their supporters, it brings the whole community together. It’s a really good way to start our season.”

Torquay Netball Club president Meagan Mifsud said the money from the event had helped the netball club with several important purchases, including some that improved the health and safety of its members.

“It recently assisted us in paying for a defibrillator. We’re looking at putting in a refill water station outside, so water bottles can be refilled to try to reduce plastics in the community.

“We’ve also invested some of that money in buying equipment for what we want to refer to as a rehab room, so players who are injured can still come to training and use equipment for rehabilitation.”

Ms Wood similarly said the money from the event was important to the club being the keeping its facilities up to date.

“There’s always improvements to be made in the facilities. Things like the scoreboard that we put up a couple of years ago has certainly been helped along with the Tiger Drop money.”

The feature event will see a helicopter fly high above George McCartney Oval and drop up to 1,000 numbered golf balls around a flag.

The three closest numbers people have purchased ahead of the drop will receive cash prizes ranging from $1,000-$15,000.

Numbered balls cost $100 each.

The event will run on March 21 from 5.30-10pm.
