THE Jan Juc SLSC has toasted six decades of tradition and cherised memories at a special 60-year anniversary Sunset Soiree event at the weekend.

More than 200 people came together on Saturday to celebrate the proud club’s milestone, signifying the institution’s long commitment to saving lives and being the inclusive and family oriented community hub that it is today.

To celebrate, the club ran tours of the new clubhouse for members and their guests, provided a free BBQ and showcased unique memorabilia and photos from the last six decades.

Jan Juc SLSC president Brett Thompson said the event was a fantastic way to bring all members both young and old together.

“It was an absolutely ripping celebration and terrific to bring our past and present members together to toast what is a huge occasion,” Mr Thompson said.

“It was also probably the first time in over 10 years since our 50th year celebrations that we could have that many members all in the one place at the one time… it was incredibly special.

“Ultimately, we’ve come a long way since the start… our major objective is still patrolling the beaches to the best of our ability and I think that’s something we are doing better now than ever.”

On the evening, Mr Thompson announced the Jan Juc SLSC was officially debt free for the very first time since building their $6.7 million clubhouse in 2020.

“It’s been 10 to 15 years of hard work to get the clubhouse to where it is,” Mr Thompson said.

“I feel like that was the main part of the event, getting everyone together in the new clubhouse, particularly after events were called off due to the pandemic.

“One of our eldest presidents, Tony Nolan from New Zealand turned up to the event and said he was just rapt with how far the club had come since his tenure.

“We are super proud and can’t wait for what the future holds.”
