MORE than 250 people will pack into the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club later this month for its Grand Final Eve luncheon.

The 10th anniversary of the event will be held on September 27 and raise vital funds to support the club in providing critical lifesaving services.

The 2024 event promises to be a showstopper with Geelong Cats premiership captain Cameron Ling and Australian Olympian water-polo co-captain Blake Edwards locked in as special guests.

It will be MC’d by 3AW radio personality Bruce Eva and also feature comedian Evan Hocking.

Co-organiser Brad Papworth said they hoped to raise $25,000 at this year’s luncheon.

“This is our tenth year and to raise over a quarter of a million dollars is a fantastic effort.

“It’s helped keep our programs going, redevelop the club and help us go from strength to strength.

“We’ve got a great lineup again this year. It’ll great to hear from Blake about the recent Olympics. There’ll be something for everyone.”

Since its inception in 2014, the luncheon has raised over $250,000 to buy equipment and assist with the redevelopment of the surf club base.

He said the luncheon had become a staple on the Surf Coast to help kick off grand final festivities.

“I believe it’s the only one in Torquay on that day which is pretty special.

“St Joeys do a big one on the Thursday in Geelong, but we seem to be the only ones to stick with it on the day before the grand final.

“It continues to be one of our hallmark events alongside the Danger 1000 and the Golf Day. It promises to be a great day.”

The event will feature a plethora of silent auction and raffle prizes donated by local businesses.
