Join in the Christmas fun
Geelong Christmas fun is underway with festive lights, Santa visits, performances and holiday activities for families across the community. Cr Emma Sinclair
IT’S the most wonderful time of the year, when our community comes together to celebrate the festive season and holiday cheer!
Across Geelong, homes, businesses, schools and community hubs have decked their halls and windows, donning bright decorations to get into the spirit.
So, I’ve made a list (and checked it twice!) with some fun holiday activities to mark on your Christmas calendar.
I’m sure many residents will venture into central Geelong to take in the splendour of the floating Christmas tree and festive lighting.
While you’re there, be sure to check out the Christmas in Geelong Performance Trail this weekend.
Tomorrow, a beautiful interactive living statue, the Angel Abrabanel, will be taking your Christmas wishes and offering good fortune on Little Malop Street.
On Sunday, piano accordionist Lucy Riddett will be roaming Little Malop, playing a festive mix of upbeat Christmas favourites and carols.
Closer to home, Armstrong Creek and the wider Charlemont ward is getting into the spirit.
Santa is especially busy this weekend, making multiple stops in the area before he heads back to the North Pole.
If your little ones haven’t had a photo with Saint Nick yet, he’ll be dropping in at Armstrong Creek Town Centre from 10am – 2pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Using his powers to be in two places at once, Warralily Village will also be merry and bright with a visit from Mr Claus on Saturday.
With free face painting, brilliant balloon twisting and plenty of candy cane treats from 11am to 2.30pm, it’s the perfect start to the jolly weekend.
The festive fun continues well into the night!
Christmas light searching is a beloved tradition for many families in the community.
There’s something so nostalgic about driving around the streets at night, eagerly peering around corners in hopes of finding a festooned home.
And now there’s an easy way to plan your search! Head to christmaslightsearch.com.au and type 3217 in the search bar – here you will find local illuminations to stop by on your tours.
If you have transformed your home into a Yuletide wonderland, be sure to upload your place to the map, so you can spread your Christmas cheer!
If you’re a business owner in need of an extra push to deck your halls this December, the City of Greater Geelong, in partnership with Bay FM, has a competition that is sure to inspire.
The City is providing giant red bows for traders to help their shopfronts look festive.
Simply register your business to join the city-wide window dressing competition, decorate your business window with a Christmas theme and you could win $1,000!
By entering this competition you’re also supporting a good cause, with $5 from every Big Red Bow going directly to the Salvation Army to provide vital support and services for vulnerable individuals and families.
Participating shops will be listed on our website to form the Geelong Christmas Windows trail for local shoppers as they venture out in search of the perfect gift for their loved ones.
There’s plenty more to see and do around Geelong in the lead up to the 25th. For the full program, head to geelongaustralia.com.au/christmas
