Key milestones completed at Biyal-A-Armstrong Creek Library

CONSTRUCTION continues to move forward on the Biyal-A-Armstrong Creek Library.

It is expected that the official opening of the facility will take place in about the middle of the year.

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said key milestones including the ground-level screed pours and internal glazing have been completed.

“Progress continues on the Biyal-A-Armstrong Creek library, with both internal and external works advancing well.

“Landscaping works are currently being undertaken at ground level and on both terraces, the Main Street canopy is almost complete.”

Construction on the three-story library started in 2022 in the Armstrong Creek Town Square and shopping precinct.

“This will be an amazing facility for the growing Armstrong Creek community, and we look forward to seeing it finished,” Cr Sullivan said.

The new building will have a number of features including, a children’s story time area, library service, multipurpose and creative spaces for community use and more.

The city has contributed $20.364 million towards the project, and the Victorian Government has provided $1.5 million through a Living Libraries Grant.

Community surveys took place in 2021 to better understand how the space would be used and who it would be used by.

The building was designed by Buchan Architects who used the feedback to finalise the plan and worked with the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.

The facility will be a state of the art community space to serve the growing Armstrong Creek population, providing them a space to connect, socialise, learn and thrive.
