THE Victorian government has partnered with the AFL to give children aged 14 and under free entry into every game across the state in the last round of this year’s AFL home and away season.

One of the tightest AFL seasons in history will all culminate in Round 24, with five games in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Geelong Cats will take on West Coast Eagles at Kardinia Park on August 24, while Mars Stadium in Ballarat will host the Western Bulldogs and GWS Giants on August 25.

The MCG will host two matches with Melbourne vs Collingwood on August 23 and Richmond vs Gold Coast on August 24, while Carlton play St Kilda at Marvel Stadium on August 25.

The first “Kids Go Free in Victoria” initiative is part of the AFL Events Package, which includes the Victorian government’s support for the Grand Final Parade and Footy Festival in 2024 and 2025.

“One of the most competitive seasons in our games history is coming to a thrilling end, with the Round 24 fixture delivering an appropriate crescendo to our home and away season,” AFL chief executive officer Andrew Dillon said yesterday (Wednesday, August 7).

“Access and affordability are key pillars of our AFL operations, and I want to thank the Victorian government and Minister [Steve] Dimopoulous for helping us deliver on that promise for families wanting to attend the last of the Victorian home and away matches in 2024.”

“GMHBA Stadium is Australia’s best regional sports and entertainment stadium, and Kids Go Free in Victoria is an excellent opportunity for our youngest footy fans to experience live AFL from this world-class venue,” Geelong MP Christine Couzens said.

Lara MP Ella George and Bellarine MP Alison Marchant also welcomed the initiative.

“We want GMHBA Stadium packed and as many locals as possible cheering for the Cats to give our home team a crucial boost in the last round of the season,” Ms George said.

Ms Marchant said all Victorian families deserved a chance to watch their favourite AFL team play.

“Kids Go Free in Victoria will mean families can get together and cheer on their side.”
