Kite festival to soar once more

Jan Juc Pre School is bringing back the Surf Coast Kite Festival after their inaugural event saw a thousand strong crowd launch hundreds of kites into Torquay’s skies

THE Surf Coast Kite Festival is returning on December 15 after the inaugural event drew a thousand-strong crowd and launched hundreds of kites into the Torquay sky.

The Jan Juc Pre School fundraiser is set to deliver another morning/afternoon of family fun at Torquay Surf Beach with a jam-packed schedule of entertainment and kite flying activities.

Committee member and organiser Keziah Halliwell said they were blown away by the community support they received last year, and the joy experienced by those who attended.

“The event was a tremendous success for both the community and the pre-school and we are looking forward to hosting it again. This year we are working in collaboration with the GKA Kite Surfing World Cup Final being held December 12-16 in Point Danger, Torquay,” she said.

“The Surf Coast Kite Festival will take place overlooking the Torquay Surf Beach on the Saturday morning, as a curtain raiser to the Kite Surf Professional comp.”

Keziah said they sold hundreds of kites on the day and would be doing the same again this year with the option of pre-purchasing kites prior to the event.

“Prepare to be blown away by spectacular aerial displays, with giant kites flown by professional kite flyers and former world champion, Jo Baker.

“On the ground, there will be children’s activities, music, live entertainment including the much-loved Wildlife Xposure team, and all your favourite local food trucks.

“As well as being able to purchase a kite at the festival or even make your own at kite-building stations on the day, the Surf Coast Kite Festival website has opened an online kite shop, so you can buy and practise flying your kite beforehand.”

The organisers want you to come and let your inner child, as well as your actual children, run free, with the event open to everyone.
