INCLEMENT weather could not scare off the more than 1,000 people who turned out for the Surf Coast Kite Festival.

The Jan Juc Preschool fundraiser was held in cold and very wet conditions on Sunday at Fisherman’s Beach.

Many kites were able to fly throughout the day, whilst the entertainment was also non-stop on the ground.

Wildlife Xposure hosted some animal demonstrations for the kids, bubbles were blown on repeat, and live entertainment from local musicians soothed audiences.

Event co-organiser Katie Holding said it was amazing to see so many people embracing the event’s concept regardless of the weather.

“We were both hardly sleeping the night before worrying whether we call it off or not, but we met early and gave it a crack.

“Considering the weather, everyone just really got amongst it, got drenched and just loved it.

“The bubbles was probably one of the kids highlights. They just danced and continued that throughout the rain. It was just a great day!”

Ms Holding said more than $4,000 had been raised to go towards a variety of projects being run by the kindergarten.

“This will go towards funding things like speech therapists, occupational therapists, workshops like Wildlife Xposure, circus activities and more.

“A huge thanks to the sponsors, vendors and community for sticking it out to help us get to this achievement.”
