Labor to match Building Better Regions Fund projects

April 3, 2019 BY

SEVERAL infrastructure projects across the Geelong region are now locked in regardless of the federal election result, with Labor committing to support them if they win.

Last week, Labor candidate for Corangamite Libby Coker said Labor would fund eight projects on the Surf Coast and Bellarine already announced in round 3 of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

These eight projects are:
• Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club rebuild
• Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club hospitality venue fit out
• Leopold Hall upgrade and extension
• Stribling Reserve pavilions redevelopment in Lorne
• Redevelopment of Anglesea Surf Life Saving Club facilities
• Construction of a youth training facility at Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club
• Green and surrounds upgrade at Lorne Bowls Club, and
• The Strategic Master Plan to the Visitor Economy of the Great Ocean Road.

Ms Coker said this meant the five projects on the Surf Coast and three projects on the Bellarine Peninsula would proceed, improving community amenity and providing much-needed jobs and economic activity.

Shadow Minister for Regional Services Stephen Jones said that if Labor was successful at the coming federal election, the party would not delay important investment in local communities by revisiting investment decisions that have already been made.
