Learning from home
THE doors to Geelong Regional Library Corporation’s (GRLC) venues may be closed, but a new digital resource is helping give keen learners the library experience under their own roof.
“Your Library @Home” brings together a range of educational, informative and entertaining video and audio content, including virtual events, online resources and links to information and cultural experiences all at the click of a button.
The hub provides free content for children and families, youth and adults. You can discover:
• “Story Time @ Home” videos, featuring children and youth Services librarians, stories and songs
• Podcasts of author encounters and sessions from the Word for Word Non-Fiction Festival
• Digital resources from the library’s eCollection
• Links to free online cultural experiences from around the globe
• Links to websites providing topical information and resources.
This week the library will also present the first of an ongoing series of virtual author encounters.
Cr Ron Nelson, GRLC chair, said people would be turning to public libraries during self-isolation.
“Now, more than ever before, people are looking for authoritative and reliable information, as well as opportunities for social interaction and quality entertainment.
“We are pleased to be able to continue to deliver on our commitment to providing access to these things in a digital capacity.
“Like many organisations around the world, we have struggled with the enormity of closing our physical doors to the public. But we are proud be finding innovative and practical ways to connect with our customers during this difficult time.
“I encourage you to explore Your Library @ Home – grlc.vic.gov.au/virtual-events and have a browse of the library’s eCollection.
“If you are not familiar with the vast array of digital resources that are available, now is the perfect time to discover what is on offer.”
