Learning to sail

The catamarans used for the day had been purchased late last year with the funds AMYC received from VicHealth’s Active Clubs Grant.

AMYC secretary Kate Stanley said the event had been very well received.

“The three days were really good. We had good weather and lots of fun sail, and they all learnt a lot.”

The grants focused on Increasing female participation in sport and increasing social and modified sport.

Ms Stanley said the program had certainly helped in these regards.

“We probably had half female, which was good because we’ve also got the This Girl Can Campaign running.”

AMYC received more than $9,000 from Round 1 of the 2019-20 Active Club Grants.

The event was held from January 7-9

There were groups for both adults and 12-17-year-olds. In both groups they were fully booked.

Ms Stanley said the positive response has emboldened the club to try and run similar events on a regular basis.
