Legacy Kids, veterans catch waves in Anglesea surf day
A SURFING event hosted by the Torquay RSL Sub-branch in Anglesea on Sunday brought together Young Veterans and Legacy Kids for a day of fun in the surf, while raising awareness of Legacy’s vital mission supporting the families of veterans.
Torquay RSL Sub-branch vice-president Darcy Dunstan, who organised the event, said it provided a great opportunity to connect with the community while honouring the work of Legacy.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community and acknowledge the vital importance of Legacy’s mission.”
Legacy, an organisation that provides essential support to the families of those who have lost loved ones or been permanently incapacitated in service, was at the heart of the event. Dunstan emphasised the importance of bringing people together to recognise and uplift these families.
“Hosting events for people in our community that honour and uplift these families is something I’m passionate about,” he said.
The day was deemed a success, with participants enjoying the surf and a barbecue at Anglesea Beach car park to cap off the event.
“We had a fantastic turnout, the Legacy Kids and Young Veterans enjoyed the surfing, and the event wrapped up with a BBQ at Anglesea Beach car park,” Mr Dunstan said.
The event was favoured with great conditions, allowing participants to make the most of the waves.
“The conditions couldn’t have been better for the kids, and they were catching waves all day,” Mr Dunstan added.
