Liberal voters should look for the blue in Corangamite

VOTERS looking for the Liberal candidate in Corangamite at the looming federal election might be scratching their heads, as incumbent MP Sarah Henderson appears to be keeping Liberal Party branding on her signs to a minimum.

Most of Ms Henderson’s corflutes scattered across her electorate (for example, “Fighting for a 50 metre Surf Coast pool” at the corner of Grossmans Road and the Surf Coast Highway) have the traditional Liberal Party blue colouring but do not have either the Liberal Party logo or the words “Liberal” or “Liberals”, except for the extremely small authorising text on the bottom or side. A small number of Ms Henderson’s smaller corflutes and her large billboard advertising (for example, on Colac Road in Waurn Ponds near her parliamentary office) do have the Liberal logo, but these are in the minority. By contrast, all of Labor candidate for Corangamite Libby Coker’s signs and advertising either use Labor as part of the message (for example, “only Labor will deliver a pool for Torquay”) or have a large Labor logo.

The Liberal Party has also unveiled what appears to be the first attack ad of the yet-to-begin election campaign, with a corflute on the Surf Coast Highway in Torquay proclaiming “only Labor will deliver higher taxes” and “only Labor will deliver a retiree tax”. The sign is not from Labor (despite the red and white colouring) but is authorised by the Liberal Party of Australia.

A spokeswoman for Ms Henderson said Ms Henderson had Liberal Party branding on her billboards, major signs, corflutes and across her digital advertising.

“Advertising that is rolled out during the election period includes Liberal Party branding.”
