GEELONG Regional Libraries has joined in the month-long celebration for Victorian Seniors Festival, hosting range of activities and events across its libraries throughout October designed to inspire, engage, and connect with seniors.

The Victorian Seniors Festival is a statewide initiative designed to bring together individuals aged 60 and above, providing them with opportunities to learn new skills, foster friendships, and embrace the joys of life.

Geelong Regional Libraries chief executive officer Vanessa Schernickau said the network’s libraries were safe and welcoming spaces for people to come together and connect, with the spotlight being shone on seniors this month.

“Attend an intergenerational Story Time Teddy Bears picnic at Bannockburn, learn about Meditation and Mindfulness at Lara, learn helpful tips to plan your next trip online at Colac.

“At Belmont Library you can attend a session an introduction to the Photo and Video Digitisation Station, where you can learn how to preserve precious family memories.

“We will soon expand this amazing service to other libraries thanks to the support of Kings Funerals – stay tuned.

“Seniors can brush up on digital skills by booking into our Building Digital Skills and Digital Literacy sessions, designed to empower people with the digital knowledge needed in today’s world. Or ‘Book a Librarian’ for a one-on-one session where they will help you make the most of the library’s resources and services – these free sessions are available year-round.”

Events over the coming days include:

  • Enrolment for the free Building Digital Skills workshops for over 50s, suitable for beginners and intermediates, at the Apollo Bay Library today (Friday, October 20) from 10.30-11.30am
