THE Anglesea Lions and Lionettes Club is welcoming newcomers who want to contribute to their community.

Both groups meet once a month and according to the club it’s “about neighbours helping neighbours, friendships that last a lifetime, and a shared love for our beautiful town”.

Every dollar raised by the club goes directly back into the community and in the past 15 years, it has distributed more than $250,000 to support local, statewide, national, and international causes.

It has a strong partnership with the Anglesea Community Bank, which has helped make many projects possible.

One example is funding and maintaining 15 defibrillators throughout Anglesea and Aireys Inlet to help the community be better prepared for emergencies.

The club has supported community events and groups, including the Lionettes’ Pink Ribbon Day fundraiser, Anglesea Historical Society, Anglesea Football Netball Club, Community Garden, Anglesea CFA and Carols by Candlelight.

Other causes the club has been behind include Camp Quality, Anglesea Medical Centre, Lookdown Care Packs, Primary School Bursaries, and disaster relief.

The club has been going for almost 60 years and Lions International started in Chicago more than 100 years ago with a simple idea – communities are stronger when people come together to help each other.
