THE Torquay Bowls Club is again the venue for the Billy Ryan Bowls Charity Day, to be held on Friday 13 March.
The annual event is named in honour of Billy Ryan, a much-loved Torquay Lions club member, community supporter and keen bowler who passed away in 2022.
Hosted by the Lions Club of Torquay, the charity day last year raised $12,000 for the SES. In 2024, it raised $12,000 for the CFA.

With floods and fires affecting communities across the Surf Coast and Otway Ranges, funds raised at this year’s event will go into a dedicated relief pool to respond to requests for assistance as they arise.
While immediate support often flows in the wake of disasters, bowls charity day organisers say it is in the months that follow when many families need help most.
About 120 bowlers are expected to compete for prizes donated by the Torquay Bowls Club and other clubs across the Surf Coast.
In the lead-up to the event, Torquay Lions members have been approaching local businesses for donated gifts, vouchers and cash contributions.

On the day, raffles will be held during the lunch break, with these donated items offered as prizes. A silent auction will also be open to the public, with bidding closing at 3pm.
This year’s major sponsors include Champion Blinds, Blinds, McCartney Real Estate and Roy Morris Lawyers.
Organisers say the generosity of local businesses plays a vital role in ensuring the Torquay community can provide meaningful relief to those in need, while also delivering a day of friendly competition and community spirit on the greens.
