Little athletes take dias for presentation morning
SURF Coast Little Athletics has celebrated its inaugural season in Torquay with a presentation day for its first cohort of young athletes.
Participants from the program’s range of age groups received medals and merchandise to mark a successful summer on the track and in the field, following the final event of the season at Torquay College on Saturday morning.
Age champions and runners-up from each age group also earned trophies for their outstanding achievements during the season.
Athletes competed in the always highly-anticipated kids and parents relays during the day’s activities, while future Little Aths members ran a race for tiny tots before their rise to the main age groups in the coming years.
Surf Coast Little Athletics co-ordinator Claire Osborn said the presentation was a chance to celebrate the accomplishments of the whole athletics community, young and old.
“Coming to the end of our inaugural season, with each week of competition coming off smoothly, was certainly cause for celebration on so many levels.
“From the committee having the courage and working so hard to carry the idea forward in short time frames, to the families who registered their children and who made the events run week to week and the partnerships which gave us the financial backing to make such a successful start, it really speaks volumes about the community living here on the Surf Coast.
“To have so many kids doing athletics each week, being physically active while learning new skills, testing themselves and making new friends has been amazing.”
