INTEREST is being gauged in setting up a dedicated branch of Little Athletics on the Surf Coast.

Torquay mother Claire Osborn is working with state body Little Athletics Victoria to seek feedback on whether it would be beneficial to establish a Surfcoast Little Athletics Centre.

The sport runs over summer from October through to late March.

It is a modified athletics program suited to children aged from 5-15 years of age and is based on track and field events such as running, jumping, throwing and walking events.

“Little Athletics aims to develop children of all abilities by promoting positive attitudes and a healthy lifestyle through family and community involvement in athletic endeavours,” Osborn said.

She is distributing a survey to the parents of children at all the Surf Coast’s primary and secondary schools.
“We’re also seeking community feedback more broadly here,” she said.

Geelong has a well-established Little Athletics Club, founded in 1964 and now with more than 800 registered members.
