A GEELONG family is soldiering on one step at a time to raise vital funds to support families of premature and sick babies across Australia.

The Moverleys will be completing the Life’s Little Treasures Foundation Walk for Prems and The Mighty Trek Challenge on October 21 at Anthony Costa Oval at Kardinia Park.

James and Mary Moverley welcomed their beloved Hamish into the world at 26 weeks and six days early last year.

Hamish spent just over two months at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne before spending multiple weeks at Geelong Hospital in the special care nursery.

He was on breathing support and in an incubator for large periods of this time.

Now, more than a year on, Hamish is well and healthy thanks to the care he received during his treatment.

Mr Moverley said an event like this would help to get more awareness out there about premature births and the journey families and their bubs go on.

“We never thought we’d be a part of something like this, but we are very excited and more than willing to take part and try raise awareness.

“A lot of these premature babies arrive with absolutely no warning signs and it’s completely unexpected.

“Charities like Life’s Little Treasures Foundation are so important in these times, and the milestone cards they provide give you that sense of achievement with your bub which is just amazing.”

Mr Moverley will also be part of the moving symbolic incubator push, where he will walk laps of the oval with the piece of equipment in tow.

“This just helps to show the amount of support and investment that is needed for babies in the early stages of their life.”

The family is halfway to their fundraising goal of $800.

“We’ve got some good numbers who are coming along to support us on the day, and hopefully we can meet some other families who have been through some other testing times.”

The day will also include family friendly inclusive day entertainment, kids’ activities, music, food stalls and more.
