A STRONG local crowd filled up the Torquay Library to hear from Surfing World Magazine editor and Jan Juc local Sean Doherty at the launch of a new local business profile series last Thursday.

The Q&A structured event saw Mr Doherty delve into his remarkable surf writing journey and document the trials and tribulations of taking over the magazine as a cottage industry in his spare room in 2020.

Mr Doherty spoke in length about carrying on the history and the legacy of the world’s longest running surf magazine, and how its continued success means it is threatening to become his full-time job again.

Mr Doherty spoke about the trials and tribulations of taking over the surfing magazine as a cottage industry in 2020.

Chair of the Geelong Regional Libraries Corporation Board, Cr Liz Pattison (Surf Coast Shire mayor), said the event was incredibly well received.

“This event at Torquay Library [was] a perfect example of the modern role of public libraries – bringing together local communities, supporting local businesses and providing an opportunity for people to learn, grow and share their stories.

“Our evolving libraries reflect their local communities and, not surprisingly, events about surfing are always popular at Torquay Library.”

The next Local Business Profile evening features Sam and Jesse from Built for Advanture, a unique enterprise that converts vans into spaces for living and travel.
