Local safety expert sets up shop in Torquay

September 19, 2019 BY

Torquay’s Surf Coast Safety is now open.

HAVING lived in Torquay for three decades, Scott Stevens’ dream of opening a safety store in the 3228 postcode has finally come to fruition.

Surf Coast Safety is an extension of Scott’s existing safety business Purchasing Power, which has operated in Derrimut for about seven years.

The new Torquay store – which is located next to the Subway carpark – aims to help the wider community as well as neighbouring businesses by stocking a range of workwear and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Surf Coast Safety will also offer an embroidery service as well as signs.

With friends who work in the construction industry across the area, Scott and wife Wendy realised there’s “never really been a safety store in Torquay”.

Scott said he discovered many people from Apollo Bay, Anglesea, Barwon Heads, Colac and Lorne were having to travel as far as Melbourne to purchase their safety supplies.

“I’d been thinking about it for a number of years. The store will mean people won’t have to drive to Geelong or further to get their workwear and safety needs,” he said.

“We’re a local business that’s identified what’s been missing in the local community.”

Scott and Wendy’s three children, Prue, Kurt and Noni will also be involved in the business.

Scott, who has a wealth of experience in safety, said he hopes to service big and small businesses in the local area.

“If you need a safety product, we can get it. We now have a pair of quick dry work shorts which are surfer friendly. (We are) offering a wide variety of quality workwear and PPE.”

Surf Coast Safety will also sponsor and support Torquay’s sporting clubs.

Meet the Surf Coast Safety team by dropping into the store at 73 Beach Road, Torquay.
