Locals aim high at starting darts league
A TRIO of Torquay locals are piquing interest for a new darts league, hoping it can land a bullseye with the Surf Coast community.
Oliver Johnson, Jai Gilbert and Will Trevean would like to launch a first-of-its-kind darts league in the region.
The six-person team tournament will have a particular focus on fun and community connection, and be hosted at local pubs and indoor venues.
Teams will face off against each other in a round robin format across two separate dart boards.
Mr Johnson said the idea was inspired by their joint travels to snow resorts and regional country pubs.
“A few of us crew have done seasons at the snow before, and it’s an absolute cornerstone of the social demographic up there. We want to recreate the amazing vibe of it all down on the coast.
“The six person teams format is a big winner up there, and really creates a great sense of camaraderie, so it’ll be in very similar fashion.
“A social darts league with some beers and a catch-up with like-minded people is something that can shake it up. We think it can be a big hit.”
The group hope to pique local interest first and foremost, and if successful, will then move on to contacting local pubs.
“We think the style of play certainly suits the pub type of audience, and we think it could work on a week or monthly basis,” Mr Gilbert said.
“It brings a lot of people together and creates a great atmosphere to enjoy the enthusiasm for darts. What more could you want?”
Flyers are slated to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
