LOCAL art lovers got a sneak peek at some of the works to be featured in August’s Surf Coast Arts Trail at Hoop Gallery on Friday night.

In the leadup to the art extravaganza on August 5 and 6, Hoop Gallery hosted a taster event to give locals the chance to check out works from 45 artists from disciplines including painting, textiles, glassware, jewellery and aerial dance performance painting.

Bellbrae ceramicist and first time Surf Coast Arts Trail featured artist Lauren McQuade said the taster event was a great way to meet fellow creatives in the local community.

“Living in the local area and seeing the buzz the trail brings around town with all the local artists opening their doors seems really special.

“It’s not often you get to see someone’s space where the magic is created, so I see it as a nice opportunity for people to come and discover where it all happens.

“I am excited to meet people who have an interest in what I do, and to come try their hand on the wheel or just pop in for a chat.”

Cr Rose Hodge was also in attendance at the taster event and said it was a perfect way for locals to plan their Arts Trail weekend.

“I always love getting out and about on the Trail weekend, which showcases why the Surf Coast is known as one of Australia’s top creative hotspots.”

This year’s Surf Coast Arts Trail will welcome more than 200 artists across 58 venues, spread from the coast to the hinterland.

Hoops Gallery will also be hosting a series of Surf Coast Arts Trail artist development programs in the leadup to the event.

The workshops will focus on enhancing artists skills, including how to promote and attract and how to sell creative works online and in person.

The sessions will cost $20 for Surf Coast Arts Trail artists and $35 for non-trail artists.
