Locals to swing for Lifeline
THE Geelong community is invited to swing into action this May at the first Lifeline Geelong Charity Golf Day.
Hosted at the picturesque The Sands Torquay golf course, the charity day on May 12 will bring together players of all levels to swing their clubs to raise vital funds to support the work Lifeline Geelong do within the community.
Lifeline is Australia’s leading suicide prevention service and offers crisis support, individual counselling, suicide prevention training and other community programs.
Lifeline Geelong general manager Jason Doherty said the event would play a vital part in supporting and ultimately stopping the 65,000 Australian who make a suicide attempt each year.
“We welcome people of all ages and skill level to attend, businesses, individuals, staff, managers and anyone who is up for a great community day out.
“Lifeline is receiving record calls to its 13 11 14 service, with 20,500 calls being received by Lifeline from the Geelong region each year – that’s 56 calls every day.
“The charity golf day is a great way to support the important work of Lifeline locally and have a fantastic day out.”
Mr Doherty said that by getting a team of colleagues or friends together, locals could help ensure the continuation of valuable services locally.
