Lorne buzzing with Pilkip-mania
LORNE P-12 College brought a rare, endangered and imaginary amphibious creature to life in its latest biennial school production.
Save the Pilkip was performed to hundreds of students, teachers and community members in the school’s gymnasium last month.
The student-led production told the heartwarming and comedic story about the Pilkip, whose tiny and endangered shoulders carried the fate of the picturesque coastal town of Lorne.
Its whimsical plot and dance performances were packed with inside jokes, referencing local Lorne issues and identities which had the audience laughing out loud.
Production director Amanda Wylie thanked staff, students and parents for their hard work in bringing the show to life.
“The lighting, sound and audio-visual backgrounds were all created by the students and parents and staff spent hours designing and making the costumes,” she said.
“A staff member brought the Pilkip creature to life, inspired by a blend of weedy sea dragon and ring tail possum – he even handmade several plush toy models. It turned out amazing.
“Honestly, we’ve all become completely obsessed by this adorable creature.
“Seeing the audience response to the performances and the absolute joy that the kids displayed during the show makes all the hard work worthwhile.”
