Lorne’s Pier to Pub tickets go on sale
LORNE Surf Life Saving Club has announced tickets for its next Pier to Pub swim on January 12, 2024 will go on sale today (Monday, October 30).
Covering 1.2km, the Pier to Pub swim is a highlight of Australia’s swimming calendar.
Each year, the event attracts both seasoned athletes and casual swimmers, acting as the club’s primary fundraiser.
Lorne SLSC’s Michael Napolitano said the 44-year-old event had become a summer staple.
“People have returned year after year to the Powercor Pier to Pub; it’s an activity that families and groups of friends have cherished for decades.
“Many started as children, returned as parents, and are now joining as grandparents. It’s been a vital and iconic part of many friends’ and groups’ summer activities.”
Taking place in the summer, the swim grants participants breathtaking coastal views.
Mr Napolitano said the balance struck between competitive spirit and a laid-back atmosphere was a hallmark of the event.
“We have recreational swimmers, professional swimmers, disabled swimmers, vision-impaired swimmers, and even those in their 80s and 90s. Age is no barrier – if you can swim, it’s for everybody.”
Swim registration on the day will mirror previous years, starting at 8am and concluding at 12 noon.
Swimmers are encouraged to bring their own gear bags in line with the event’s eco-friendly approach.
The swim will start in waves from 11am onwards.
Tickets will also be available for the Lorne Mountain to Surf run, scheduled for the day before, on January 12.
Runners will start their journey from the oval on Williams Street.
The Mountain to Surf also eatures a wave start, with the fastest runners setting off first, followed by the slower participants and those in costumes.
“Tickets for both events will be available on October 30. Act quickly as they often sell out fast,” Mr Napolitano said.
