A TRIO of music students from Lorne P-12 College have made their mark by winning the “Come Together Battle of the Bands” contest.

The talented team of Isabella Reynolds (electric guitar and vocals), Amelie Osta-Meier (bass guitar) and Phoenix Dixon (drums) beat eight other schools from across the state for the title.

Known as Strange Brew, the band captivated audiences and judges with a 15-minute set of psychedelic soul music.

Organized and supported by local teacher Steve Mcewan, FReeZA, APRA, and the Queenscliff Music Festival, the contest provided a platform for young musicians to shine.

For their efforts, the Lorne trio secured a coveted spot on the “Foot-in-Door” stage at this year’s Queenscliff Music Festival..

Lorne P-12 College music teacher John Waller said it was an incredible opportunity that would propel the band’s musical journey to new heights.

“We are so proud of them, particularly after getting a second-place finish in the event last year and to come out and win it this time.

“The group have worked really hard on their style andf arrangement of tunes. It was all on show during their performance and got them over the line.

“The crowd were super into them, and the judges deemed that they had great stage presence, stage craft and fantastic technical skills.

“We are thrilled for them.”

Mr Waller said Strange Brew’s experience in playing at venues across Geelong and the Surf Coast would hold them in good stead for their big performance this November.

“They played the Barwon Club and the Aireys Inlet Music Festival in the lead up to the band contest and have got several more to go in the coming months.

“It will also give them some great experience before they sit their Music Exam later this year.”
