Lorne SES search for a unit controller
VICTORIA State Emergency Service’s (VICSES) Lorne unit is looking for someone to fill the role of unit controller.
The Lorne unit has been integral in ensuring the town’s safety for more than 40 years.
South West Region SES community resilience co-ordinator Melanie Gill said someone who was community-orientated and had strong organisational skills would likely be well-suited to the position.
“We’re after a community-minded person, we’re really looking for someone that is a strong leader.
“The position is more of a managers sort of role, they’ll be overseeing the unit and just ensuring that all of the different roles are being filled.”
While the person to fill the role will play a crucial part in their community’s safety, they are not expected to be on the frontline of emergency incidents.
“They don’t need to be operational, so they don’t necessarily need to be out cutting trees in the middle of the night, but if they want to that’s great.”
People are encouraged to apply as early as possible, with the SES aiming to have the role filled by the end of March.
