Lunch funds to help power Jan Juc club into the future
MORE than $20,000 was raised for the Jan Juc Surf Life Saving Club at its Grand Final Eve Luncheon on Friday last week.
The 10th anniversary edition of the much-loved fundraising event saw 200 people turn out to help fund the club’s lifesaving pathways and patrol services.
Geelong Cats premiership captain Cameron Ling and Australian Olympian Blake Edwards shared their sporting stories, while Bruce Eva and comedian Evan Hocking also appeared.
Co-organiser Brad Papworth said it was fantastic to see so many people turn out to support the future of the surf club.
“It was just a fantastic day filled with great entertainment and plenty of laughs,” he said.
“To raise over $20,000 again was a monumental effort, particularly with cost of living and all the things going on in the world.
“All the funds will support our lifesaving services and our training programs for Nippers and competition.”
Mr Papworth said the club was super proud its luncheon had been able to raise more than $275,000 across its 10-year history.
“The event started off as something to help us with our clubhouse redevelopment, but it’s really turned into a legacy event for the whole community,” he said.
“The community’s support in general has just been incredible. Probably 80 per cent of attendees at this year’s event were non-surf club members. It shows us the event seems to continue to hit the mark.”
Jan Juc SLSC’s next fundraising event will be the Danger Swim Series on January 4, 2025.
