MAC seeks committee members

TORQUAY’S Multi Arts Centre (MAC) anticipates it will reopen next month, and is calling for applications to join its committee.

Located at 77 Beach Road, the community-driven facility aims to become a vibrant epicenter for creativity, performance, and connection.

An investment of $1.5 million from the Surf Coast Shire and the federal government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phase, along with $300,000 in from Regional Arts Victoria and Regional Development Victoria, has repurposed an indoor basketball hall into an arts facility.

MAC features a 100-seat theatre, a versatile multipurpose space, and an art gallery.

Its mission is to empower local multidisciplinary artists – spanning visual arts, performance, and mixed media – by providing them with a venue to create, perform, workshop, exhibit, and share their talents with the wider community.

Works for MAC’s latest phase started in November and are scheduled to finish this month.

“This long-awaited project is a dream come true, and we are thrilled to be on the brink of welcoming everyone back,” MAC committee president Jock Jefferies said.

“The MAC signifies not just a physical metamorphosis but a cultural renaissance – it’s a sanctuary where creativity and community thrive.”

As MAC prepares for its reopening, it is inviting passionate and visionary individuals to join the MAC and help shape the future of this transformative centre.

Expressions of interest are being sought from people with “skills, enthusiasm, and a passion for the arts and community development” for roles including but not limited to:

• Administration
• Secretarial
• Legal
• Communications and marketing, and
• Information technology.

MAC states that by becoming a member of its committee, you will play a crucial role in steering the strategic vision of the centre, ensuring its long-term sustainability and positive impact on the community.
