TORQUAY local Mack Smith is sporting a brand-new haircut, knowing his fresh look has made a real difference in the community.
The 11-year-old shaved off his signature mullet last week, raising more than $3,300 for the Black Dog Institute.
Mack had been growing the mullet since he was five years old before finally saying goodbye to it last week.

He said the reaction when he returned to St Therese Primary School in Torquay for the start of term 3 was priceless.
“I was sad to see it go, but the guys got at school got a good shock when I turned around. They thought it was pretty good,” he said.
“It’s been with me for a very long time, but it’s felt really good to do something positive for mental health services.”
Mack has already squeezed in a few surfs and a game of football without his famous locks, and said he was certainly feeling a bit lighter.

“It’s a lot easier for me to get around and not have to worry about the hair,” he said.
“I’ve been surfing a lot and when I go under it feels quite different. I’m also happy it’s not swinging in my eyes on the trampoline or on the bike anymore.”
