Making surfing fun and accessible
IN A TOWN where surfing is part of everyday life, it is little surprise Torquay is home to some of the best surfboards on the market.
Torquay-based Gboards designs soft boards aimed at making surfing fun, safe and accessible, particularly for beginners and those new to the sport.
The boards are made from closed-cell foam, meaning they do not absorb water, giving them a longer lifespan and making them easier to repair.

Compared to many other soft boards, Gboards are designed with a curvier shape that allows them to perform more like a standard surfboard, helping riders learn basic manoeuvres and transition more smoothly to traditional boards.
Beyond surfboards, the local business also produces stand-up paddleboards, surf school softboards, G-sleds, surf lifesaving boards and accessories.

Founded in 1999, G-boards has played a leading role in the development of the soft board market, guided by founder Paul Garrard’s belief that surfing should be enjoyable, safe and accessible to everyone.
Surfing runs deep in the Garrard family, which has spent more than 80 years teaching people how to ride waves.
