MORE than 50 people got their hands dirty last weekend and participated in the Great Ocean Road Clean Up Day.

While the Rip Curl Pro was on hold, 10 full bags of rubbish were collected from Hurst Road to the Forest Road roundabout in Anglesea.

The event was organised by local souvenir wholesaler Explore+Engage+Enjoy in association with the Torquay Rubbish Rangers.

Volunteers ranged in age, with plenty of children showing enthusiasm and commitment to keeping their hometown clean.

All sorts of materials were collected throughout the day, including broken off car parts, roof racks and empty bottles.

Explore+Engage+Enjoy managing director Carlo Lowden said it was a fantastic day out for all involved.

“It felt rewarding pick-up rubbish along the Great Ocean Road.

Ten full bags of rubbish were filled on the day.

“Our products are sold in 10 stores along our coastline – so it felt good to be giving something back to the attraction that we make money out of.

“Our hope is that the Great Ocean Road lasts for a long time so future generations can travel here and see its natural beauty.”
