Masks off outside among latest COVID rule changes

MONTHS of compulsory face mask-wearing will come to an end for Victorian’s as part of a lifting of further COVID-19 restrictions.

Premier Daniel Andrews announced changes that will take affect from midnight tonight.

“Masks will be required inside in all settings, they will not be required while outside,” he said.

“However you need to carry the mask with you because you will have to wear the mask outside if you can’t socially distance.”

Everyone in Victoria has been required to wear a face mask when outdoors since the city was struck by a deadly second wave of coronavirus months ago.

Additional changes to restrictions include 15 home visitors per day, up from two. And outdoor public gatherings of up to 50 people will be allowed from Monday.

The significant change to social restrictions were announced as the state has one active COVID-19 case.

Mr Andrews said that from 30 November there will be further moves back to normality including up to 30 home visitors per day in time for Christmas.

Also, 25 per cent of the Melbourne workforce will be permitted back in workplaces from November 30. The remainder should continue working from home.

All public sector workers will continue working from home to allow private sector businesses to benefit.



From 11.59pm tonight.

– Masks no longer mandatory outside unless unable to physically distance.

– Must be worn indoors and carried at all times.

– 15 people allowed over for home gatherings.

– Similarly, 15 people can book to stay at in holiday accommodation.

– 50 people can gather outdoors.

– Hospitality venue total venue cap indoors and outdoors of 300 people.

– Gyms allowed 150 people in groups up to 20.

– 150 people are able to congregate for weddings, funerals and indoor religious gatherings.

– Cinemas, galleries and museums can host up to 150 people indoors.


From Monday, 30 November

– Up to 25 per cent of staff able to return to office workplaces.


From 11.59pm Sunday, 13 December

– 30 people allowed over to visit homes for festive gatherings including Christmas.
