Match day ferries announced

PORT Phillip Ferries have announced they will be running ‘Game Day Specials’ to get Geelong Cats supporters to and from Melbourne during the 2021 season.

The new service will allow AFL fans to travel between the MCG, Marvel and GMHBA stadium in comfort while the Geelong Cats are playing.

Chief Executive Officer for Port Phillip Ferries, Murray Rance said the new partnership will provide an exciting alternative to what is often a stressful journey.

“We look forward to welcoming both Geelong and opposition fans onboard during the 2021 footy season,” he said.

“Catching the ferry not only provides supporters a relaxing way of getting to and from the game, it also means they are guaranteed a seat onboard and don’t have to worry about the hassle of traffic and finding a carpark at the other end.”

By connecting Docklands with Central Geelong, the game day packages are timed to allow for up to forty-five minutes before the first siren.

Onboard passengers will be able to win tickets to upcoming Geelong home games as well as hear from legend Barry Stoneham on the way to an upcoming Melbourne based match with more details to emerge.

“The Game-day Specials provide a great opportunity for Geelong residents who haven’t already experienced our service to jump aboard and discover what we are all about,” Mr Rance said.

“Those who aren’t interested in the footy, can also use the ferry to travel to the city to catch up with friends and family, enjoy a meal out, do a spot of shopping or catch a live theatre show or art exhibition.”

The 90-minute sail will kick off this weekend with the round two match against Brisbane Lions at GMHBA.

Supporters will be able to catch the game day ferry for a further four rounds including blockbuster matches between Geelong and Hawthorn on April 5 and Richmond on May 8.

One-way tickets will cost $18 for adults, $16 for concession, $10 for children and those under three will be able to travel for free.

There will be family and multi-pass options for larger groups looking to take advantage of the new services.

“These services have been specifically organised to allow footy fans plenty of time to make their way from the ferry terminal to the relevant footy venue and back as well as have access to a bus service for select games,” Mr Rance said.

“Our regular timetable will operate as per normal outside of our Game-Day Services, traveling twice daily between Docklands and Geelong, servicing both the commuter and leisure markets.
