AFL Barwon and the Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SAFV) Centre are teaming up this weekend to raise awareness and show solidarity about domestic violence.

The two organisations will be leading a special ceremony before the Newtown & Chilwell vs Grovedale FNC match day at Elderslie Reserve this Sunday, August 4.

Senior footballers, netballers, officials and AFL Barwon representatives will take part in the ceremony and a moment of silence to acknowledge this community issue.

There will be adjustments to both the senior football and A Grade netball matches, which will both now start at 2.20pm.

AFL Barwon has been in partnership with the SAFV Centre since 2022, providing affiliated clubs the opportunity to participate in the Respect Starts Here Program, which is designed to raise awareness about preventing family violence.

The program also aims to progress gender equality and promote respect within clubs and communities.

Seven clubs are participating in one of the two program streams in 2024.

Any AFL Barwon club and community members are welcome to attend.
