Meet some of the Humans in Geelong this weekend

THE diverse talent and stories of Geelong’s people will be on show this Sunday.

The Humans in Geelong Expo 2018, to be held at Deakin University’s Waterfront campus, will feature at least 12 live performances, 17 speakers and 45 exhibitors and is expected to draw thousands of visitors.

The free expo will feature a huge range of expertise and heart-warming community inspirers. From “The Streets Barber” for the homeless Nasir Sobhani, transgender champion Pauley Johnson and autism entertainer Princess Aspien to musicians, dancers and artists, the expo brings together the very best of Geelong’s humans to inspire, connect and strengthen.

“It’s all about all the good things happening within our fantastic community,” organiser Jacqui Bennett said.

“It will surprise people, maybe even shock some people. It will definitely inspire people because it is simply remarkable what goes on among our wonderful humans in Geelong.”

Two years in the making, The Humans in Geelong has collected 280 stories, attracted 10,000 online followers and a reach of 175,000 with its diverse and uplifting stories.

Spearheaded by Ms Bennett, a Highton Primary School teacher and mother to two teenagers, the initiative’s ambition is to also publish 2,000 Humans in Geelong books to distribute to schools, tertiary institutions, university, libraries and community groups.

Humans in Geelong has a six-pronged philosophy to engage and improve the community’s environment, health and well-being, sustainability, multiculturalism, equity and opportunities.

The 2018 Humans in Geelong Expo will be held on Sunday, October 7 at Deakin’s Waterfront Campus, 1 Gheringhap Street, Geelong from 10am to 3pm. Entry by gold coin donation.
