Another Meredith Music Festival in the bag
AUNTY Meredith pulled out all the stops for her 29th party at the weekend, with thousands of festivalgoers flocking to the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre for three days of live music.
This year’s cooler climate was welcomed by attendees, many of whom dressed in cowboy hats, netball gear and oddly enough, dressing gowns.
Sydney singer songwriter Julia Jacklin didn’t dumb down her witty humour, introducing her hit song “Don’t Know How To Keep Loving You” by saying “this is for anybody who’s gonna break up with someone at this festival”.
But the biggest headline act Liam Gallagher (Oasis) delivered with his Friday night set, playing some of the band’s most loved hits including “Wonderwall” and “Stand By Me”.
Saturday saw Melbourne band U-Bahn and Welsh producer Cate Le Bon attract an audience before last minute fill-in DJ Koze had everybody jumping with his hit “Pick Up”.
The evening was responsible for a wave of genre change when New York hip hop duo Dead Prez descended their political lyricism down Meredith hill.
A few sore heads managed to make their way to the Meredith Gift on Sunday – a nude or underwear sprint that has been a Meredith tradition since 1994.
Next year, Meredith Music Festival will celebrate its 30th anniversary.
