Oils bring the power and the passion

THE power and the passion of Midnight Oil has rung out live in Geelong for the last time, with the band making a stop at Mount Duneed Estate on Saturday as part of their final concert tour.

Held in increasingly rainy conditions at the winery, the concert saw the legendary band in fine form, cranking out hits from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s as well as more recent material from The Makaratta Project and new album Resist.

Frontman Peter Garrett was happy to reminisce with the audience.

“This is going back to a pub in Waurn Ponds, but who’s telling stories? Not us!” he said.

Geelong-born band Goanna were one of the support acts at Mount Duneed Estate for A Day on the Green.

Midnight Oil will keep writing and recording and the band’s political edge remains sharp as ever, with Garrett (a long-time environmental activist and former Labor MP) introducing “King of the Mountain” with a description of Scott Morrison – “I’ve never seen a national leader who has less to offer than his own petulant ambition”.

They were supported earlier in the day by folk group All Our Exes Live in Texas and Geelong-born folk rockers Goanna.
