Modern living on full display at Sustainable House Day
LOCAL sustainability group Geelong Sustainability has announced the return of one of its largest yearly events, providing residents with the opportunity to learn more about sustainable living.
The annual three-week event now in its 15th year, Sustainable House Day celebrates and promotes sustainable living and design, and will run from October 7-26 covering Greater Geelong, Bellarine, Queenscliffe, Golden Plains and the Surf Coast.
“We are thrilled to host Sustainable House Day once again for the Geelong and surrounding areas, bringing together the community and experts in the field to promote sustainable living and design,” Geelong Sustainability chief executive officer Dan Cowdell said.
“With a diverse range of events, including workshops and a Q&A session, we aim to empower attendees with the knowledge and inspiration they need to make sustainable choices in their own lives.”
The event begins with a seminar on Saturday, October 7, featuring Peter Maddison – the host of Grand Designs Australia, founding director of Maddison Architects, and a keynote speaker.
Attendees will get the chance to delve into the world of sustainable design with Mr Maddison, who will provide examples from both Grand Designs Australia and his own architectural practice.
On October 15, eight homes will be open to the public.
From 10am to 5pm, attendees will have the chance to see sustainable homes.
The opportunity allows visitors to engage with the homeowners and architects, builders, and trade experts, to gain first-hand insights into the stunning builds, gardens, and innovative designs.
Sustainable House Day concludes on October 21, with three engaging workshops over two different time slots, 10-11am and 12 noon-1pm. They are:
Growing Your Permaculture Garden – Curlewis- Learn about growing a permaculture garden for the future, with expert guidance on sustainable gardening practices
