More money for marathon

February 18, 2016 BY

THE state government is helping the GMHBA Great Ocean Road marathon attract more visitors than ever before.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced a $17,500 grant to help the GMHBA Great Ocean Road Marathon with marketing and advertising, so the region can welcome visitors from all over Australia.

Some 6,400 competitors took part in the 2015 event, providing valuable opportunities for local small businesses.

“There’s no better place for a marathon than the Great Ocean Road,” Ms Tierney said.

“What better location to challenge yourself than along the stunning coastline? “These events aren’t just great spectacles, they’re big boosts to the local economy too.

“We are working hard to grow our calendar of events, because we know they mean a stronger regional Victoria.”

The state government will also invest $3 million to embark on an ambitious regional tourism marketing campaign, highlighting regional Victoria’s treasures and showcasing our regions.

The GMHBA Great Ocean Road Marathon is on May 14, register at greatoceanroadmarathon.com.au
