More than 400 tails wag at Geelong Million Paws Walk

MORE than 400 locals and their four-legged friends turned out at the Geelong Botanical Gardens on Sunday for the RSPCA Million Paws Walk, an event that raises vital funds towards stopping animal cruelty.

Geelong was one of eight locations across the state that held a Million Paws event on Sunday, adding to the 5,000 people statewide that walked with their dogs to help raise over $250,000 to support RSPCA Victoria and their critical work.

More than 400 locals and their dogs turned out to support the event.

Alongside locals seeing plenty of wagging tails during the walk, participants enjoyed exploring a number of pet exhibition stalls including canine massages and pet care services.

Competitions were also held throughout the day including waggiest tail, smallest and largest dogs and the popular pet-owner lookalike category.

Doggy Daycare and Training teaching the crowd some new tricks to do with their dogs.

Volunteer Jacs was firing up the BBQ for all the hungry walkers.

Geelong Million Paws Walk coordinator Kate Kasby said it was once again a top effort from the Geelong community to turn out and support cause.

“We had a fantastic day in Geelong for the Million Paws Walk.

“Around 400 Geelong and Surf Coast locals and their ‘pawsome’ friends made their way around the Geelong Botanic Gardens, braving the wet weather and chilly conditions.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for coming down to support us despite the weather, including our amazing volunteers, members of staff – including some of RSPCA Victoria’s Inspectorate Team.

“It was a fantastic day and even better is knowing the event raised vital funds to support RSPCA Victoria’s vital work.”
